Message to Readers

Hey all you bloggers out there! If your are sitting in Starbucks on a Saturday morning reading this, then you are the coolest. I hope you enjoy my posts and pages for this project! They are great reads...

Why I Chose Him

After first hearing about this project, I immediately wanted to do Frederick Douglass Stubbs. He was the first person that came to mind because he was a successful surgeon, and I am related to him. Since I couldn't do my project on him, I considered John Henry Faulk, a successful lawyer who ended blacklisting celebrities, and he is also related to one of my friends. In the end, I chose Dr. Charles Drew, the best friend of Frederick Douglass Stubbs and my grandmother's godfather, who also invented the blood bank.

The Search

Considering Charles Drew is not a very well known person, it was very difficult to find a lot of information on him. After a lot of searching on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, I finally found a biography with enough content and information about Charles Drews's life titled, Charles Drew: Blood Bank Innovator. Once I finally found the book, instead of ordering it, due to time issues, I checked it out from the public library. Since he was my grandmother's godfather, I listed her as a possible candidate for me to interview. The others on the list consisted of my grandpa, who successfully developed his own chain of dentist offices in Maryland, my godmother, who is a surgeon, and Charles Drews's daughter. She was the easiest to get in contact with, and her journey was also similar to Drews’s.
